Juan Ruiz’s practice centers on the day-to-day management and strategic execution of complex litigation matters, emphasizing precision, efficiency, and achieving the best possible outcomes for his clients. He handles a broad range of disputes, including construction litigation, commercial litigation, contract claims, insurance defense and coverage, premises liability defense litigation, Insurance Law §5102 defense, and tort liability defense litigation.

Juan represents both public and private sector clients, including municipalities, governmental agencies, public transportation authorities, insurers, owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers. His experience across multiple industries provides him with a 360-degree perspective, enabling him to anticipate opposing strategies, assess risk, and develop proactive, detail-oriented litigation plans tailored to each client’s goals.

In his day-to-day practice, Juan is deeply involved in every stage of litigation. He begins with initial case intake, reviewing accident reports, contracts, and claims to identify potential liability and damages. He drafts pleadings, prepares and responds to discovery requests, coordinates depositions, and manages document review and organization. Juan actively engages in court appearances, including 50-h hearings, motion practice, and pretrial conferences, while overseeing expert retention and disclosures. He prepares witnesses, reviews expert reports, and ensures all trial materials are fully organized for efficient presentation. In addition, he negotiates settlements and participates in alternative dispute resolution forums, including mediation and arbitration, to advance client objectives. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, Juan balances the strategic and operational aspects of litigation, ensuring cases are thoroughly prepared and positioned for success at every stage.

Juan earned his Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City, where he served as Staff Editor of the Cardozo International & Comparative Law Journal and received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the Intellectual Property Award. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra and is a native Spanish speaker fluent in French.
