Biography and Introduction
Matthew N. Sirju
focuses his practice on the day-to-day management and strategic execution of complex litigation matters from inception through resolution. He regularly defends clients in a wide range of disputes, including insurance defense and coverage matters, premises liability actions, Insurance Law § 5102 serious-injury threshold litigation, and general tort liability defense.Matthew represents both public and private sector clients, including municipalities, governmental agencies, public transportation authorities, insurers, property owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers. His experience across multiple industries provides a comprehensive, 360-degree perspective on litigation risk, enabling him to anticipate opposing strategies, evaluate exposure early, and develop proactive, results-driven litigation plans aligned with each client’s objectives.
In his daily practice, Matthew is hands-on at every stage of litigation. He begins with early case assessment, statutory hearings, and initial case intake, where he conducts detailed reviews of accident reports, contracts, insurance policies, and claims materials to identify potential liability defenses, indemnification issues, and damages exposure. He drafts and responds to pleadings, manages written discovery, prepares and defends depositions, and oversees document review and organization to ensure the factual record is fully developed.
Matthew regularly appears in court for conferences, motion practice, and hearings, including § 50-h hearings. He manages expert retention and disclosures, reviews expert reports, and works closely with witnesses to prepare them for testimony. As cases progress toward trial, he organizes and coordinates all trial materials to ensure efficient and effective presentation. In addition, Matthew actively negotiates settlements and represents clients in alternative dispute resolution proceedings, including mediation and arbitration, with a focus on achieving favorable and cost-effective outcomes. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, he balances the strategic and operational demands of litigation to ensure each case is thoroughly prepared and positioned for success.
Matthew earned his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law in Queens, New York, where he received Dean’s List Honors and was a member of the South Asian Law Student Association. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from St. John’s University and was the recipient of the Gold Certificate of Achievement and the St. Vincent de Paul Scholarship.
