Mairead R. Cooney, Esq.

Mairead’s practice focuses on the day-to-day management and strategic handling of complex litigation matters across a wide range of practice areas, including construction law, contract disputes, insurance defense and coverage, premises liability, Insurance Law §5102 defense, and general tort liability defense litigation. She represents both public and private sector clients, including municipalities, governmental agencies, public transportation authorities, insurers, owners, developers, general contractors, and subcontractors.

In her practice, Mairead oversees every phase of litigation—from initial case assessment and strategy development through discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation. She regularly handles court appearances, expert retention and disclosures, mediation, and arbitration, ensuring each case is positioned for the best possible outcome. Known for her attention to detail and results-driven approach, Mairead tailors litigation strategies to each client’s objectives while maintaining a focus on efficiency, risk management, and success. Her experience includes matters involving New York Labor Law §§200, 240, and 241, insurance coverage disputes, contractual indemnification, and all aspects of premises and tort liability defense. Mairead is deeply involved in developing litigation strategies that not only resolve current disputes but also mitigate future exposure for her clients.

Mairead earned her Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law, where she was a Dean’s Scholarship recipient. During law school, she served as Director of External Relations for the Moot Court Honor Society and as a Staff Member of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review. She gained valuable experience through internships with the Department of Social Services and Guercio & Guercio, LLP, and as a participant in the Domestic Violence Litigation Clinic in partnership with the New York Legal Assistance Group. Mairead also externed with Chan Vitanza (formerly Wilson & Chan) in Fall 2023. She graduated summa cum laude from Niagara University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, where she served as President of the Pre-Law Association and as a Peer Mentor for the Justice Living Learning Community.
